Municipal Homelessness Support Initiative

Funded with $2.2M in State Fiscal Recovery Funds -- provides grants to municipalities to expand homelessness services or support municipalities with related costs. The Department of Housing has run two rounds of the program:

 

Round 1 Awardees - 2023-2024

New or Expanded Shelter Capacity Formula Grant

  •      Burrillville – School transportation costs - $74,000
  •      Providence – Expansion of shelter bed availability - $364,000
  •      Warwick – Public safety expenses - $240,000
  •      Woonsocket – Expansion of shelter bed availability - $40,000

New or Expanded Shelter Capacity Competitive Grant

  •      Smithfield – Financial assistance for municipal services - $150,000

Winter Emergency Hub Competitive Grant

  •      Newport – Winter hub activations - $119,000
  •      West Warwick – Winter hub activations - $119,317
  •      Woonsocket – Winter hub activations - $119,316

  •      Burrillville – School transportation costs - $75,000
  •      Newport – Winter hub activations - $65,854 -
  •      Westerly – Expansion of current shelter capacity - $176,469 – 50 beds
  •      West Warwick – Winter hub activations - $37,518 – 25 spaces
  •      Woonsocket – Winter hub activations - $375,818 – 46 spaces
  •      Woonsocket – Maintain/Expand shelter capacity (Harvest Kitchen) - $77,234 – 22 beds
